Multi-Purpose RoomGraystone Elementary School, San Jose, California
The existing multi-purpose room at this school was too small, so the adjacent courtyard was enclosed to create an larger multi-purpose space and a new heart of the school. The new wood truss roof over the courtyard area is supported by four columns, allowing it to be structurally separate from the existing building walls, and clerestory windows allow plentiful daylight into this interior space. A wood and glass folding wall separates the old and new areas and allows the room to be subdivided if needed.
